Margaret Ashby Baker Lawton knows how to make a decision. And quickly. Sometimes, the trick is recognizing you have time constraints, like three kids to keep up with, and you just don't have time to overanalyze. Sometimes, it is because you need to "quiet your heart and let God tell you what to do."
Examples of the first option are - buying her gold Chrysler Lebarron that commented "A Door is Ajar" when you opened the door. This was an impulse buy - the woman didn't want to drive a blue pontiac station wagon anymore and who could blame her? It was hideous.
But this new vehicle - it was fantastic - it hauled ass, it played her favorite song loudly (All I want is your EXTRA TIME AND YOUR . . . . KISS! - Prince) and it was shiny and not much room for three kids in the back. But who cares? For years she drove this car, and cursed its very existence "It's a LEMON!" (It was a lemon).
Carrying that car back and forth to the Chrysler place in Greenville taught me me a life lesson as well - "Ashby, don't let these car people mess with you just because you are a woman, or they will take every dime you have! . . . Sir, sir, I have been waiting. It is time for you to see me and discuss this lemon I purchased from your dealership. Excuse me, sir! Ashby, sit down beside Ginny and Will over there and y'all be quiet and still."
Another example - when it is time to go. It is time to go. "Kids get in the car" If that doesn't work, you simply turn on the alarm system with the family still in the house. You don't look around for a purse, cause Peg doesn't carry a purse. Why? All you need is a credit card and your driver's license. One time she made a decision to hurry up and leave church and go home, because this was when you were expected to wear hose and heels to church. In her haste to get home, get on her belly flopping clothes, and eat lunch, she left baby brother Will at church.
To which she responded to herself: Oh, ok.
